Harry Sever

(Queen's College)

Harry Sever is a music student at the Queen’s College, Oxford. Initially self-taught as a conductor, he now studies with Toby Purser and Dmitry Sitkovetsky. He has worked as both a conductor and répétiteur with ensembles in America and Australia, as well as with an amateur musical theatre company in the UK. He also directs his own group – The Novalis Chamber Orchestra – a small vocal-instrumental ensemble. Future engagements with them include ‘The Music of Tears’, ‘Polyphony in the Dark’, and a live performance of Walter Murphy’s ‘Disco Symphony’.

Harry holds the Michel academic scholarship at The Queen’s College, as well as the répétiteur scholarship at New Chamber Opera, where he will direct the studio oratorio and opera in 2012-13. As a singer, he is on the books for several choirs in Oxford and around the country, and recently gave a solo recital of Schubert’s ‘Winterreise’. He is working as a songwriter, arranger, and orchestrator for a number of different groups, both in London and further afield. He has composed music for stage and screen, and is currently writing the score for a play at the Minack theatre in Cornwall.

Aside from music, he is a passionate sportsman, representing Oxford on the Australian Rules Football pitch, and is currently training for his second marathon.
